President Adama Barrow criticized opposition performance in the Kanifing Municipality during his Meet the People Tour in Serekunda on Saturday, October 17, 2026. Addressing the crowd, President Adama Barrow stated, "There is nothing you can point to here in Serekunda, within the KMC area, that has been done by others for the benefit of the people. If you know of even one project carried out by someone else here in the past ten years, tell me." He questioned the record of local officials, adding, "The opposition National Assembly members, what have they done for you? The opposition councillors, what have they done? And the highest-ranking councillor, the mayor, what has he done? Nothing. It is all empty talk." President Adama Barrow concluded, "Those elected were elected to work for the people. Not to drive expensive vehicles or wear expensive haftans."
Government Infrastructure Projects Noted
President Adama Barrow listed a series of road infrastructure works delivered by his administration across the Kanifing Municipality. He identified specific construction projects located in Ebo Town, New Jeshwang, Kanifing, Bundung, and Latrikunda. Further road improvements were documented in London Corner, Kotu, Abuko, and the area surrounding Serekunda Sandika.
Beyond transport infrastructure, the administration pointed to the construction of new educational facilities to support local students. President Adama Barrow cited schools built in Bakau, Jeshwang, Serekunda, and Latrikunda as evidence of his government's development record. These projects stand as the primary infrastructure accomplishments presented by the President to contrast with the record of local opposition officials.
Criticism of Opposition Elected Officials
President Adama Barrow asserted that opposition elected officials have delivered no tangible results for the people of Serekunda over the past 10 years. He argued that the local leadership failed to implement significant initiatives, leaving residents without evidence of progress from opposition members during their tenure.
Addressing local service challenges, President Adama Barrow announced plans to replace old water pipes in Serekunda. This initiative aims to provide 24-hour water and electricity access to the municipality. He stated that the government expects to complete this utility infrastructure work within six months.
Management of the Bakoteh dumpsite also featured in the President’s address. He announced that the government intends to sign a major cleaning contract by the end of October. This agreement is intended to decommission the site, which has been a point of contention for local residents regarding sanitation and environmental conditions.
The administration set these development targets ahead of the next election, which is scheduled for December 5. President Adama Barrow presented these infrastructure and utility commitments as a direct contrast to the record of the opposition, framing the upcoming vote as a decision point for residents regarding future municipal management.
