Dr. Ismaila Ceesay, the leader of the Citizens Alliance and the Minister of Information, Media and Broadcasting Service, has announced the party’s continued support for President Adama Barrow. The coalition remains aligned with the National People's Party as political activity intensifies across the country. These developments occur ahead of the Gambian presidential election, which is scheduled for 5 December 2026. The Independent Electoral Commission is currently finalizing the necessary preparations for the vote. Citizens Alliance members have met in the West Coast Region and the Kanifing Municipality to discuss their strategy for the upcoming ballot. Party representatives gathered at the Paradise Suit hotel to confirm their formal position regarding the administration. The political landscape remains focused on the electoral timeline established for the end of the year.

Coalition History and Structure

The Citizens Alliance formally joined the National People's Party coalition in October 2022. This alignment established a long-term partnership between the two political organizations. The National People's Party coalition currently includes ten political parties. These member organizations coordinate their activities to support the administration of President Adama Barrow within The Gambia. The alliance functions as a multi-party body to manage political objectives ahead of the upcoming election. Each of the ten parties maintains its internal structure while participating in the broader coalition framework. This organizational model has remained consistent since the formal entry of the Citizens Alliance four years ago.

Infrastructure and Development Achievements

Local government funds have supported the construction of over 1,500 kilometers of roads under the leadership of President Adama Barrow. These infrastructure projects aim to improve transportation networks across The Gambia.

Educational facilities have also expanded significantly during the same period. More than 6,000 classrooms have been constructed under the leadership of President Adama Barrow, representing an average of 11 new classrooms per week. This initiative seeks to increase capacity within the national school system.

Energy infrastructure has seen a substantial rise in coverage as well. Electricity access in The Gambia has increased from 40% to over 90% under the leadership of President Adama Barrow. This shift reflects the implementation of national electrification programs designed to extend power services to a larger portion of the population.

Grassroots Engagement and Outreach

Citizens Alliance members are launching a 10-day grassroots tour starting 26 October 2026. This outreach initiative targets residents throughout the West Coast Region and portions of the Kanifing Municipality. Party organizers intend to engage directly with local populations during this period to communicate their platform and current coalition objectives. The tour schedule focuses on strengthening the party's presence within these specific administrative areas as the 5 December 2026 election approaches. Official representatives will conduct meetings and community sessions to discuss the party's continued alignment with the National People's Party and President Adama Barrow. This mobilization effort represents a key component of the organization's engagement strategy for the final weeks leading up to the national ballot.
